Coronavirus has sent jolts across the entire globe. It has been declared as a global pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO). People are suffering, cities are in lockdown, sales are going down, supply chains are getting disturbed. It’s a terror situation.
Amidst all this, auto industry has been shook as well. Many companies relied on China for their auto parts import. Now not only is the supply from China affected, but since coronavirus is spreading rapidly to many countries, the automakers have been forced shutter their production plants, to reschedule auto shows and postpone new vehicle launches.
Italy has been widely struck by COVID-19. 24,747 cases and 1809 deaths, Italy has been forced into a lockdown. People are confined to their homes and streets are deserted.
A big name, Lamborghini, has announced to keep its production paused from 13th to 25th March. After the quick spread of Coronavirus in Italy, the renowned Automaker shut down its production facility in Sant ‘Agata Bolognese.
Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali said; “This measure is an act of social responsibility and high sensibility toward our people, in the extraordinary situation in which we find ourselves right now in Italy and which is also evolving abroad due to the worldwide spread of the coronavirus.”
As much as we should avoid panic at this time, appropriate measures should be taken. There is no compromise on health. So regardless of the suspected losses the auto industry is looking at, they have no choice but to close down their production lines for the time being.
The company CEO also stated that “We continue to monitor the situation in order to react rapidly and with the right flexibility, in collaboration with our people and in order to restart with energy in the right moment.”
We hope all these companies are able to achieve their targets and make up for the losses.
