The future is bright and full of advancements in the auto world. One initiative that predicts this was recently revealed by the owner of automark.pk, Hanif Memon, in one of his social media posts. According to him, Sapphire Power Generation Limited (SPGL) has partnered with Chinese Automaker BYD to set up a plant to manufacture Electric Vehicles in Pakistan.
This said Chinese Automaker manufactures trucks, medium and full-sized buses, electric bicycles, forklifts, and rechargeable batteries. The entire range of automobiles manufactures by BYD has all-electric variants, including passenger and commercial vehicles. This makes it on the of the very few electric vehicle mass producer in the world.
As of currently, BYD has a solid presence in international markets like South America, Northern Europe (Scandinavia), Australia, Russia, etc. They are specially known for their all-electric commercial line-up including buses and trucks. The passenger vehicle lineup is more common in China, Australia, Russia, and Latin America.
18 different vehicles are present in BYD’s current passenger vehicle range. These include six SUVs, three MPVs, seven sedans, and two subcompact hatchbacks. All of these have at least one all-electric variant. This is the strong point of this Chinese Automaker and it is utilizing it to enter new markets while maintaining a strong hold in the markets it already has a significant presence in.
Given the recent revelation in the media, BYD certainly is thinking about entering the Pakistani market. However, the time of this is still not announced. This is good news for Pakistani auto industry as electric vehicles are surely the next big thing in the auto world. Pakistan can definitely use such vehicles to reduce overall pollution that is caused by our current type of vehicles.
We can also expect other EV manufacturers to follow in the footsteps of the big name, BYD. Let’s see how early we will see electric vehicles being manufactured and introduced in Pakistan for good.
